Internships at The Dalí

Internships at The Dalí are seasonal, non-paying positions designed to provide college graduate and undergraduate students, recent graduates and beginning museum professionals with off-campus and/or on-the-job Museum experience. The program incorporates the opportunity to study the life and work of Salvador Dalí while learning about the inner workings of an art Museum. The program also offers a challenging learning experience and promotes awareness of Museum careers. Students may be eligible to receive college credit (if applicable).

This program is informal and can be designed to work within the student’s schedule. Internships typically last for three months in the Fall and Spring starting in September and January, and 10 weeks in the Summer, starting in June. Internships typically require at least a two-day/week or 15-hour commitment.

Internship Eligibility
The Dalí Museum accepts applications from both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates and beginning museum professionals. International students, especially from Spain, France, and Germany are also encouraged to apply.

Who is eligible to become an intern at The Dalí Museum?

The Dalí Museum’s Internship Program is open to current students, recent college graduates, graduate students and beginning museum professionals. The Museum encourages candidates from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines to apply.

There is currently no High School Internship Program. High school students and recent high school graduates should visit the volunteer page for more information about programs at The Dalí.

Ages 9-15 are eligible for The Dalí Museum’s Junior Docent Program.

Must I be a current student to be eligible to intern?

No, The Dalí’s Internship Program is open to current students, recent college graduates, graduate students, and beginning museum professionals.

If I am an international student, do I still qualify to be an intern?

Yes, many international students participate in the Internship Program. All interns are expected to be proficient in speaking, reading and writing the English language (but you do not need to submit your TOEFL scores). We are unable to sponsor J1 visas. The Dalí is also unable to assist with housing accommodations or fees associated with visa applications.

Are the internships paid?

No, Museum internships are unpaid.

You are welcome to submit more than the required documents. All documents will be taken into account for placement.

How many interns are typically accepted?

The number of interns accepted depends on the needs of the respective departments.

What is the interview process like?

The Museum will contact selected candidates to set up an interview, which may be conducted over the telephone. The interview will cover topics such as scheduling, expectations and potential projects.

Is it possible to receive academic credit for participating in the internship program?

Yes, the Museum will work with students to fulfill their academic requirements.

Is intern housing included?

Not through The Dalí Museum, but you are welcome to investigate external sources.

What types of projects will I be working on?

Internship projects are based on The Dalí’s needs and requirements, and are assigned to interns with the appropriate skills and interests. All of the internships have an administrative component.

What will my schedule be?

Hours and days vary based on departmental need and the student’s schedule. Schedules are usually made during the orientation process, or beforehand if certain accommodations have to be made. The hours are generally very flexible.
