Numerous offerings for businesses, groups and individuals available in the new year

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Salvador Dalí left a legacy as a great innovator, not just in art, but in his way of thinking and his unique ability to make others see things differently. Facilitators at the Dalí Museum’s Innovation Labs use the artist’s pioneering vision to create an atmosphere where participants learn to see and solve problems differently, by applying Dalí’s art, philosophy and methods to their own lives and professions. The Dalí is the first museum to offer a full-service creative training program based in the application of “art thinking” to business challenges and organizational development.

“His ability to perceive things in such uncommon ways changed the art world,” said Dalí Museum Executive Director Dr. Hank Hine, who is the founder and co-director of the Museum’s Innovation Labs. “Dalí experimented with perception and offered new visions of reality. There are boundless ways in which we can learn from him as we set our own resolutions for creativity in 2020.”

The Museum invites businesses and individuals alike to rethink personal development, starting with an “Introduction to Creative Thinking” half-day workshop on Jan. 18. In this course, participants will identify their personal innovation strengths and learn the tools and methods used by top creativity scholars and practitioners to boost creative problem-solving skills and confidence. “From the moment you set foot in the Museum, you begin to believe in possibilities instead of problems. It’s like walking into a vast world where creativity never ends,” one participant said.

Innovation Labs Co-Director Dr. Kim Macuare explained, “Our program uses today’s best teaching tools – such as LEGO® Serious Play®, creative problem-solving and design thinking – along with Dalínian creativity-stimulating exercises to help participants overcome roadblocks in the way they think about any range of topics, from art to business challenges.”

The Innovation Labs’ cutting-edge methods led The Tampa Bay Inno not only to recognize the program as one of its inaugural “Inno on Fire” winners, but also to award it the coveted “Inno Blazer” honor. These annual awards are given to businesses and enterprises that are elevating the Tampa Bay area as an innovation hub. Corporate participants that have benefited from the Innovation Labs include Bloomin’ Brands, USF, Bank of America, Illumina and Henkel.

Innovation Labs at The Dalí has numerous offerings for businesses, groups and individuals, all of which are designed to aid in professional development, training and team building. Innovation Labs programming is divided into three categories: Foundation Labs, Skills Labs and Solutions Labs. These interactive courses range from three-hour art gallery experiences to full-day, comprehensive customized workshops. “I love how interactive the program was. I immediately started to utilize some of the techniques,” said a past program participant.

Attendees of all labs access the collection of the museum, take part in Dalí-inspired exercises, are provided with Spanish fare from the in-house cafe and take advantage of all the Museum has to offer, including the imaginative architecture, tranquil labyrinth and inspiring Avant-garden overlooking Tampa Bay.
