A Fun & Surreal Summer for Tampa Bay Campers
The Dalí Museum Enhances Its Junior Docent Art Camp for 2017 Season

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA (March 30, 2017) – This summer, The Dalí boosts its popular weeklong Junior Docent Art Camp with new activities and more scholarships. Offered to children ages 9-14, campers create their own art as they explore Salvador Dalí’s techniques and learn about his life. This year’s camp introduces Surrealist-inspired games and energizing activities by Lucky Cat Yoga. The weeklong camp concludes with a gallery tour and reception for the campers and their families, bringing them together to share in campers’ accomplishments.

The Dalí’s Junior Docent Art Camp benefits campers by building self-esteem, enhancing speaking skills and providing opportunities to verbalize personal choices. During the camp, kids build a foundation in art by learning how to view and speak about art through The Dalí’s collection. The program is administered by award-winning visual arts teachers of Pinellas County, in tandem with The Dalí’s Education Department – led by the Museum’s new School & Community Education Manager, Denisse De Leon, who remarked: “I’m excited to introduce new, dynamic programming that will strengthen future campers’ interest in art and their understanding of Dali’s captivating life.”

The Dalí is committed to providing educational opportunities in the Tampa Bay community and will award as many as 20 full scholarships for this year’s Junior Docent Art Camp, including up to 10 scholarships for children from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS). The Museum initiated the partnership with BBBS in 2016 and is proud to support the expansion this year with support from an individual donor and other fundraising efforts.

There are four weekly camp sessions, which run daily (Monday through Friday) from 9:30am to 3:30pm with Friday extended to 5:30pm to include the finale tour & reception for families. The 2017 sessions include:

June 12-16 (Ages 9-11)
June 26-30 (Ages 12-14)
July 10-14 (Ages 9-11)
July 24-28 (Ages 12-14)
