Coffee with a Curator

August 7 @ 10:30am 11:30am

The Art and Science of Botanical Illustration

Join us for this installment of our Coffee with a Curator series, where Museum Staff or invited guests speak on a range of Dalí-inspired topics.

In conjunction with our special exhibition, Reimagining Nature: Dalí’s Floral Fantasies, this month’s talk will feature David Berry, Vice President for Visitor Engagement and Chief Museum Curator at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Join David for an exploration of the art and science of botanical illustration. Discover how images of plants double as works of art and forms of scientific evidence used to aid plant identification. Learn how botanical illustrations supplement preserved specimens and living plants with the goal of providing as complete a picture as possible of a given plant species.

Location: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater (registration required), with overflow seating available in the Raymond James Community Room or live on YouTube (link below).

Register to attend in person at the link below. This event is free with limited capacity. An event ticket is required for entry. Gallery access is not included.
