Coffee with a Curator
March 5 @ 10:30am – 11:30am
Subverting the Subversive: Women, Vision and Power
Join us for this month’s installment of our Coffee with a Curator series, where Museum staff or invited guests speak on a range of Salvador Dalí-inspired topics.
In conjunction with our special exhibition The Subversive Eye: Surrealist and Experimental Photography from the David Raymond Collection, this lecture explores the groundbreaking work of eight surrealist female photographers, with a special focus on Dora Maar. These artists redefined the boundaries of photography, using their medium to challenge traditional narratives, subvert patriarchal norms and reclaim the surrealist movement’s often male-dominated lens. Through their innovative techniques and powerful imagery, they not only reimagined the surreal but also carved spaces for women’s voices in art, vision and power. Discover how these trailblazers transformed the subversive into a bold assertion of identity and creativity.
Location: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater or live on YouTube (link below).
Due to the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the Museum parking lot will be closed on Wed, Mar 5. Attendance for this event will be first-come, first-served. Click here for parking details if you plan to attend. Gallery access is not included.
