The festive tree draws inspiration from Salvador Dalí’s surreal holiday card designs
The Tampa EDITION announces a creative collaboration with the world-renowned Dalí Museum located in St. Petersburg, home to the preeminent collection of Salvador Dalí’s work. Celebrated as one of the most distinguished collections dedicated to a single modern artist, The Dalí infuses the artist’s visionary artistic oeuvre into the hotel’s 2024 holiday tree installation.
The 15-foot tree’s ethereal design draws directly from Dalí’s vision, with pampas grass serving as a delicate foundation that evokes the feathered wings from his holiday card, “Wings” (1958). Adorning the tree are floating, handmade butterflies designed to capture the dreamlike quality of Dalí’s artwork and the natural beauty of real butterflies. Illuminated from below, the butterflies seem to float in midair, suspended in a dreamscape that brings Dalí’s fantastical world to life.
“Our collaboration with The Tampa EDITION this holiday season could not be more timely,” said Kathy Greif, Dalí Museum Chief Operating Officer. “Reinterpreting Dalí’s butterfly motif in such a unique way, and in such a beautiful environment, serves as a powerful symbol of transformation and resilience, a sentiment that resonates deeply with the spirit of the Tampa Bay community this season.”
The tree will be unveiled during a festive celebration at the hotel on Thursday, December 5. A small display of Dalí’s original holiday card imagery featuring the butterfly motif will be available for guests to view. Custom holiday cards featuring Dalí’s “Mariposas” (1967) butterfly design will also be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds donated to The Dalí Museum to support its non-profit mission to preserve Dali’s work and legacy and inspire educational activities across the region.
Through the festive season, the property will also offer a signature Spanish-inspired holiday cocktail and a twist on the guest favorite espresso martini called “It Happened One Night,” infused with a hint of cinnamon and crafted in partnership with Ketel One. Proceeds from the festive drink will also be donated to The Dalí Museum.
