Fern & Friends present a one-hour concert at The Dalí Museum highlighting the rich contributions of Hispanic composers to the jazz tradition alongside original works by Fernando Cruz. Blending cultural influences with contemporary jazz, the performance honors the creativity, heritage and enduring influence of Hispanic voices on the evolution of jazz.

Fernando Cruz
Saxophonist, Composer, Educator
Fernando Cruz is a saxophonist, composer, educator and active performer in Florida’s music scene, recognized for his expressive style and versatility across jazz, orchestral, contemporary and musical theater settings. He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from the University of North Florida, where he studied with Todd DelGiudice and served as a Jazz Graduate Teaching Assistant. A recipient of scholarships from the Jacksonville Jazz Society and the Jazz Club of Sarasota, Fernando has presented research on jazz education at the Florida Music Education Association Conference and performs regularly as a bandleader and sideman. He has shared the stage with artists including Wycliffe Gordon, Marquis Hill, Bob Reynolds, Pasquale Grasso and Jared Schonig, and has appeared at major festivals such as the Jacksonville, Sarasota, Amelia Island, Savannah, and Lakeside Jazz Festivals. In addition to his performing career, Fernando is a dedicated educator, serving as Adjunct Professor of Saxophone at the State College of Florida and presenting clinics throughout the region as he continues to inspire audiences and the next generation of musicians.
