SUMMARY:Film Screening: Spellbound—SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:This event is sold out. Enter a dreamlike world where cinema and surrealism collide\, and discover how Dalí’s imaginative set designs helped shape one of film history’s most visually striking sequences. \n\n\n\nIn conjunction with our special exhibition\, Dalí in America\, and in collaboration with the Tampa Theatre\, we welcome you to a special screening of Spellbound (1945)\, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This celebrated psychological thriller is renowned for its surreal visual language and unforgettable dream imagery\, featuring an iconic dream sequence designed by Salvador Dalí. Before the film\, Museum Curator & Senior Interpreter\, Peter Tush will dive into the immense history of Dalí and Hitchcock. \n\n\n\nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund TheaterCost: $10 Gallery access is not included. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilt in 1926\, the Tampa Theatre is one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces and a beloved community landmark. \n\n\n\nVisitors to the Theatre enjoy world-class entertainment under a realistic night sky with twinkling stars\, in a romantic Mediterranean courtyard replete with old-world statues\, flowers\, and gargoyles. \n\n\n\nLike other movie palaces around the country\, Tampa Theatre was enormously popular when it opened. For the first time in history\, the common person had access to opulence — for only 25 cents! \n\n\n\nBut by the 1960s\, times had changed. The rise of television and migration to the suburbs had a profound impact on the movie palaces that lit up America’s main streets. Audiences dwindled\, costs rose\, and many of our nation’s finest movie palaces were demolished. \n\n\n\nIn 1973\, Tampa Theatre faced the same fate. But Tampa’s citizens rallied\, community leaders got involved\, and a deal was struck for the City of Tampa to rescue the Theatre. \n\n\n\nToday\, Tampa Theatre is managed by the not-for-profit Tampa Theatre Inc. As one of the most heavily utilized venues of its kind in the United States\, Tampa Theatre’s 1\,238-seat historic auditorium and 43-seat screening room host nearly 1\,000 events each year\, including a full schedule of first-run and classic films\, concerts\, special events\, corporate events\, tours and educational programs. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Tush\, Curator and Senior InterpreterFor more than two decades\, Tush has been a leading interpreter of The Dalí collection and special exhibitions. He develops exhibitions\, trains docents and writes audio tours and gallery texts. He has taught courses on Dalí\, Surrealism and film\, and has presented on topics including Dalí and Hollywood\, Surrealism and Women and Dalí’s Ghosts.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Surreal Pet Portrait Painting
DESCRIPTION:member tickets\n\n\n\nnon-member tickets\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nInspired by our special exhibition\, Dalí in America\, and Horst P. Horst’s 1943 gelatin silver print portrait of Salvador Dalí\, this workshop invites you to create a timeless black-and-white portrait of your furry friend. Using a value scale and a paint-by-numbers approach\, you’ll transform a favorite pet photo into a unique acrylic painting on a 10-inch square canvas. For an extra touch of Surrealist flair\, an optional Dalí-inspired mustache can be added to your masterpiece. Once your ticket is purchased\, you must email instructor Shawn Dell Joyce at shawndelljoyce@gmail.com with a photo of your pet that clearly shows their face. Photos must be submitted by Aug 11\, 2026. Shawn will crop and print each image\, then pre-sketch the design onto a 10-inch square canvas and provide a grayscale guide inspired by paint-by-numbers—with a Surrealist twist. The result is a striking and whimsical portrait that makes a perfect keepsake or gift.Materials provided per person:10″ square pre-sketched canvas with color chart and B&W photo referenceAcrylic paints\, brushes\, water cups and towelsAprons and easels \n\n\n\nLocation: The Dalí Museum’s Raymond James Community RoomCost: $50 for Museum members | $60 for non-membersNot yet a member? Join today. \n\n\n\nGallery access and all materials are included. All sales are final.
