Join us on YouTube for the first installment of our new lecture series, which focuses on the work of young scholars. In this inaugural installment, we will be joined by Jordan Kriseman, who will present her recent research on the after-effects of Vincent van Gogh’s artistic contributions.

Most people are familiar with the art of Vincent van Gogh. This talk investigates the legacy of Van Gogh’s paintings that may be felt in Surrealism, particularly in the work of artists such as Salvador Dalí. The question of Surrealism’s interest in the relationship of art and madness as well as Antonin Artaud’s book “Van Gogh: The Man Suicided by Society” serve as the inaugurating points of inquiry.

Kriseman recently graduated from the University of Florida with her Bachelor’s in Art History, magna cum laude. She is currently applying to graduate programs and hopes to eventually obtain a Ph.D. in Art History. She also recently started working at The Dalí as a Visitor Experience Specialist. Her current research interests include the representation of nature and the landscape in art, shifting temporalities and art and the Anthropocene.
