Poetry at The Dali is an ongoing series hosted by St. Petersburg Poet Laureate, Helen Wallace. Occurring on the second Thursday of each month through May 2017, each evening will feature Wallace joined by selected poets to present poems addressing the theme of Food and Sustenance. Following the presentation, there will be an audience Q&A.

Poetry at The Dali-Helen Pruitt Wallace

Helen Pruitt Wallace
Helen has been selected to serve as Poet Laureate of St. Petersburg beginning in January 2016. Her first collection of poems, Shimming the Glass House (published by Ashland Poetry Press) won the Richard Snyder Prize for Poetry and a bronze Florida Book Award. She served as co-editor of the anthology Isle of Flowers published by Anhinga Press, and individual poems have been published in several journals and anthologies. She’s received a McKay Shaw Academy of American Poets Award, The dA Center for the Arts Poetry Award, a residency fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference. She earned her Ph.D. in English/Creative Writing from Florida State University, and teaches poetry and nonfiction at Eckerd College. She and her husband Peter both grew up in St. Petersburg, and raised their children here.

David Kirby
David Kirby’s collection The House on Boulevard St.: New and Selected Poems was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2007. Kirby is the author of Little Richard: The Birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll, which the Times Literary Supplement of London called “a hymn of praise to the emancipatory power of nonsense.” Kirby’s honors include fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. His latest poetry collection is Get Up, Please.

Barbara Hamby
Barbara Hamby is the author of five books of poems, most recently On the Street of Divine Love: New and Selected Poems (2014) published by the University of Pittsburgh Press, which also published Babel (2004) and All-Night Lingo Tango (2009). She was a 2010 Guggenheim fellow in Poetry and her book of short stories, Lester Higata’s 20th Century, won the 2010 Iowa Short Fiction Award. Her poems have appeared in many magazines, including The New Yorker, Poetry, American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, and Yale Review. She has also edited an anthology of poems, Seriously Funny (Georgia, 2009), with her husband David Kirby. She teaches at Florida State University where she is Distinguished University Scholar.
