Poetry at The Dalí is an ongoing series hosted by St. Petersburg Poet Laureate, Helen Wallace. Occurring on the second Thursday of each month through May 2020, each evening will feature Wallace joined by selected poets. Following the presentation, there will be an audience Q&A.

Cost: Free (Parking is free for members, as available; $10 parking for nonmembers; free after 5pm on Thursdays, as available.)

Helen Pruitt Wallace
Helen Pruitt Wallace serves as Poet Laureate of St. Petersburg. She received a Florida Book Award for Shimming the Glass House, her first collection of poems, which was chosen for the 2007 Richard Snyder Prize, and published by Ashland Poetry Press. A chapbook, Pink Streets, was published in 2016 by Yellow Jacket. Wallace’s individual poems have appeared in several journals and anthologies, and she served as co-editor of the anthology Isle of Flowers published by Anhinga Press. She’s received a McKay Shaw Academy of American Poets Award, The dA Center for the Arts Poetry Award, a residency fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writers’ Conference. After earning her Ph.D. in English/Creative Writing from Florida State University, Wallace was a professor of poetry and nonfiction at Eckerd College. She currently serves as a trustee for the Dalí Museum where she helps host the Dalí Poetry Series. 

Poets


Julia Koets
Julia Koets is the author of The Rib Joint: A Memoir in Essays (forthcoming November 5, 2019, Red Hen Press), Hold Like Owls (2012, The University of South Carolina Press), and Pine (forthcoming from Southern Indiana Review Press, Fall 2020). Julia is the winner of the 2017 Red Hen Press Nonfiction Award judged by Mark Doty and the 2011 South Carolina Poetry Book Prize judged by National Book Award Winner Nikky Finney. Julia’s essays and poems have been published or are forthcoming in literary journals including Creative Nonfiction, Indiana Review, Nimrod, The Los Angeles Review, Carolina Quarterly, and Portland Review. She earned her M.F.A. in poetry at the University of South Carolina and her Ph.D. in Creative Writing and Literature at the University of Cincinnati. She’s a Visiting Assistant Professor of creative nonfiction at the University of South Florida.


Hunt Hawkins
Hunt Hawkins is Professor Emeritus at the University of South Florida. He has published poems in numerous journals and a book, The Domestic Life, with the University of Pittsburgh Press. He has won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize, the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship twice, and the Academy of American Poets Prize three times.
