Coffee with a Curator: The Surreal Life of Fernando Pessoa

Wednesday, Jun. 05, 10:30–11:30am

Coffee with a Curator: The Surreal Life of Fernando Pessoa
Presented by Margo Hammond
Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa often is labeled as a pre-surrealist. Long before Andre Breton, Salvador Dali and Marcel Duchamp, Pessoa wrote poetry in a state of trance, played with identity and disappeared behind invented personas. Join award-winning journalist, blogger and writing workshop instructor Margo Hammond who will trace the enigmatic Pessoa’s life and work in Lisbon in the early twenties and the lives and works of some of the 75 “heteronyms,” multiple characters with full-blown biographies, that he dreamed up and wrote as.

Cost: Free
Location: Raymond James Community Room (overflow seating available in the Will Raymund Theater)

Sponsored by Cafe Gala and AARP Florida and the City of St. Petersburg.
