Frank Verpoorten: Surrealism in Belgium
From the start, the Belgian Surrealists-among them Rene Magritte, Paul Delvaux, Paul Nouge, E.L.T. Mesens and Marcel Marien–distinguished themselves from their Parisian counterparts with their dry wit, brilliant conceptualism and knack for combining the fantastical and the everyday. For this talk, Frank Verpoorten – Director and Curator of the Baker Museum, Naples, and Curator of the 2015 exhibit “Surrealism in Belgium” – shares his insight into this extraordinary group that was Magritte’s community throughout the 1930s and beyond.
Location: Raymond James Community Room (overflow seating available in the Will Raymund Theater)
