Below are some of the most commonly asked questions. We are more than happy to schedule a call to answer any additional questions. Simply fill out the Inquiry Form or call 727.623.4711.
How long are the programs?
Our programs come in all shapes and sizes.
Solutions Labs can be woven into an existing meeting agenda and facilitated in as little as an hour, or sometimes they work best onsite at the Museum in a half-day or full-day format. We can run overnight events, web-based ideation events, and multi-day or week-long events.
Skills Labs are research-based programs and come largely pre-designed. They run in 1-day, 2-day, and 2.5 day formats. That said, we are always happy to consider unique delivery models. Some organizations may prefer to spread them out over a number of months or a year as part of an existing cohort-based, talent development program.
Leader Labs are 100% customizable to client spec (and pair nicely with offsite excursion options). Team-building programs can be facilitated in half-day and full-day programs, and corporate retreats are often full-day and multi-day programs.
Do we need to come to the Museum, or will you come to us?
Our space is one of the unique offerings of this program; in fact we’re the only 3-star Michelin cultural attraction in the entire Southeastern United States. We also understand that it’s not always possible to get a large group out of the office. As a result, we’ll gladly come to you. When doing an offsite (at your site) workshop, there are some additional steps we take to ensure the program runs smoothly including checking on AV/projection/sound capabilities, wall space, permission to move furniture and temporarily apply things to walls, etc.
Who leads the sessions?
Solutions Labs and Skills Labs are co-facilitated by Dr. Hank Hine and Nathan Schwagler. Dr. Hine is the Executive Director of The Dali and comes from a dynamic background of publishing, entrepreneurship, and academia. Nathan Schwagler is a creativity and innovation specialist, having recently served as Creative-In-Residence at the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, and College of Business. Read more on the Facilitators page.
Sessions are also supported by a range of trainers, facilitators, consultants, artists, and events professionals.
Are sessions lecture-based?
Our experiences are an energizing combination of keynote presentation, hands-on/kinesthetically activated collaboration, visual, auditory, and imagination-driven effort, etc.
Can Skills Labs courses be bundled together?
Yes, Skills Labs courses are eligible for bulk purchase, in fact we recommend that and we offer discounts when purchasing more than one.
Can Skills Labs fit into existing educational programs?
Yes, courses are designed to be modular so that they can be woven into an organizations existing talent and organizational development programs.
How do I know which lab is the best fit for my group?
If your goal is to organize a group to solve a problem or to think up something new, then Solutions Labs are the way to go. If you’re interested in learning about creative problem solving, design thinking, the science of imagination, and/or the business of entrepreneurship and innovation, then you’d probably be more interested in Skills Labs – where the objective is to transfer insights from the time spent in each course back into your personal, professional, and organizational objectives. Lastly, if it’s just a day out of the office for a creative energizer, some team-building or communications work, or an alignment retreat with your leadership team, then a Leader Lab is likely a good fit. We can help you determine which experience will best help meet your needs.
How many people can I bring?
We host small and medium-sized groups with seating at table rounds for up to 80 in our Raymond James Community Room and up to 100 in our Theatre. Occasionally we get requests for larger groups which we can accommodate through breakout spaces or via collaboration with nearby venue-partners.
We are coming in from out of town, can you help us find accommodations & activities?
Absolutely. We have strong partnerships with local hotels and restaurants, as well as the Convention & Visitors Bureau and a network of Destination Management Companies who specialize in activities in the area.
Can we make art, too?
Definitely. We believe that a hands-on, prototyping mentality can be an extremely useful approach. For example, we incorporate LEGO SERIOUS PLAY methodology, in fact we are the only certified museum in the United States to offer this coveted service. We lean on a strong team of in-house and in-community artists and co-creators to design experiences that delight the senses and challenge participants to create in a variety of media.
Do you have examples of activities that take place during sessions?
One of our favorite sessions is the Big Toe Exercise, demonstrated here. We’d be happy to share additional samples one-on-one.
Will you help us brainstorm?
Traditionally we are hired for our expertise as creativity researchers and facilitators of creative process – a role which prohibits us from contributing ideas to a company challenge. At the same time, we’re proud of our years of experience working with some of the best ideators and subject matter experts in the world, so if you’ve got a challenge and you’d like to tap into our creativity-on-demand capabilities, we’d certainly consider supporting your session goal as “trained brains.”
Do you design custom programs?
Of course. We really like the programs we’ve already built, but at the same time, we also know how special an experience can be when it’s designed just for you.
How frequently are courses offered?
We run programs frequently, though most are organization-specific. Open-enrollment courses are offered on a rolling basis. The best approach is to let us know that you’re interested in attending by preregistering for a workshop; then we’ll work out the details and send you a formal invitation to participate once program dates have been finalized.
Can I sign up as an individual or do I have to have a group?
We offer a range of private, organization-specific courses, and individuals are welcome to preregister for our public, open-enrollment programs (we’ll send a formal invitation to participate once the next course dates have been confirmed).
Do you provide catering?
We are in the fortuitous position to offer the catering services of our onsite restaurant partner, Cafe Gala. We offer celebrated Spanish fare as well as an opportunity to customize the menu to your preferred specifications.
What is the cost?
The cost of a Solutions Lab is often dependent upon a few key factors: group size, duration, research/pre-work, design time and materials, and venue (space needs). We can usually run through a diagnostic checklist of questions during a 15-minute phone call to learn about what you’re trying to accomplish in your session, and then turn around a proposal complete with pricing information within one business day.
The pricing of Skills Labs (corporate training) are based on participant headcount. Costs increase with group size, as additional materials and trainers may be required, etc.
Leader Labs are custom-designed and custom-priced. We support a wide variety of corporate events, so it’s best to have a quick chat to determine whether you’re looking for a half-day team-building event for a small group or a week-long retreat for your senior leadership team complete with excursion activities (e.g., sailing, glass blowing, flight lessons, sun and fun on the Gulf beaches, artwalks, craft brewery and cocktail tours, restaurants, etc.)
Do you offer discounts?
Not-for-profit groups, educational institutions, and military / government agencies may qualify for a discounted rate.
Will The Dali’s facilitators sign an NDA?
Yes, we respect the privacy of your company’s information shared at our workshops and have mutual NDA information included in our agreements.
