Docents & Chief Curator share over 30 years of Salvador Dalí and museum memories
Film Collaboratively Created by The Dalí, Suncoast Hospice and St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation TASCO Teen Technology Camp Volunteers
St. Petersburg, FL – (July 30, 2013) – The Dalí museum in St. Petersburg, FL announces the debut of an intergenerational documentary film project “Sharing Salvador…Legacy Stories” in collaboration with Suncoast Hospice Lifetime Legacies™ program and 30 students participating in St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation TASCO Teen Technology Camp.
The public is invited to the Sharing Salvador…Legacy Stories screening debut on Saturday, August 17, 2013 in The Dalí theater – located on the museum’s first floor – from 3 pm to 5 pm. Admission to the film is complimentary.
The documentary captures over 30 years of memories, featuring six story tellers: The Dalí Deputy Director & Chief Curator Joan Kropf, and docents Jane Roberts, Charlotte Smyth, Georgia Parsons, Johnna Patterson and Joan Sackheim. The film’s Executive Producer is The Dalí’s Executive Director Dr. Hank Hine; the project was coordinated by Yvonne Marrullier.
The Suncoast Hospice Lifetime Legacies™ Program teen volunteers and staff executed the interviews and filming. St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation TASCO Teen Technology Camp integrated a Salvador Dalí educational curriculum into their 10 week summer camp program. Six teams of 30 St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation TASCO Teen Technology Camp teens edited and completed the video production.
The documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the 1983 opening of this St. Petersburg jewel and never-seen-before personal and historical photographs of the museum founders and Salvador Dalí. Viewers will enjoy the memories shared about the artist and his art, founders A. Reynolds and Eleanor R. Morse and the institution that has housed and exhibited the most comprehensive collection of Salvador Dalí’s work in the world. This collaborative film effort memorializes these historical accounts in a dynamic, inspiring and educational series.

The Legacy Story documentary series will debut at the St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation TASCO Teen Technology Camp graduation event on Saturday, August 17, 2013 held at the Dalí museum in the Raymond James Community room from 10am to 1pm, by invitation only. The six individual legacy stories will later be featured in The Dalí theater for the public to enjoy from 1 to 3 pm.

About The Dalí
The new Dalí Museum opened on January 11, 2011 at One Dalí Blvd. in St. Petersburg and is a work of distinguished architecture. The museum offers visitors an Avant-Garden, a 1934 Rolls Royce that rains and thunders, a Spanish-themed café, and the largest museum store in the State. Housing the largest collection of Salvador Dalí’s work outside of Spain, the amazing works of art finally have a home designed specifically for this collection. The museum has attracted the world’s attention and is listed as one of the top buildings to see in your lifetime in AOL Travel News, was voted the top museum design in the state in a competition conducted by The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida), and was recently named on Flavorwire.com as “One of the 20 Most Beautiful Museums in the World.”
The museum’s exterior is itself a work of art, featuring 1062 triangular-shaped glass panels. This geodesic glass structure – nicknamed the “Enigma” – is the only structure of its kind in North America and is a 21st century expression of Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic dome as utilized in Dali’s Teatro Museo in Figueres, Spain. No two-glass panels are identical, providing a kaleidoscopic view of St. Petersburg’s picturesque waterfront. The Helical Staircase – a spiral that ascends to the third floor galleries and beyond – is the main architectural element of the interior. An energetic form created with mathematical precision and resembling a strand of DNA, Dalí recognized the helix as evidence of the divine in nature.
The Dalí is home to the Morse Collection, carefully assembled over four decades and donated by A. Reynolds and Eleanor R. Morse.
