Dali & Beyond Film Series: The Exterminating Angel

Saturday, Feb. 18, 1–3pm
  • This event has passed.

The Dali & Beyond Film Series features an eclectic selection of films – both familiar and fantastic – with monthly themes ranging from horror, experimental and psychological to kid-friendly and world cinema. February features films made by Luis Bunuel. You may know Bunuel as a Spanish surrealist filmmaker, but in 1949 Bunuel renounced his Spanish citizenship and became a naturalized Mexican. Though he likely did not know Frida Kahlo, Bunuel left his mark on the Mexican surrealist movement.

The Exterminating Angel
In Luis Bunuel’s daring masterpiece The Exterminating Angel (El angel exterminador), a group of high-society friends are invited to a mansion for dinner and find themselves inexplicably unable to leave. Full of eerie comic absurdity, this film continues Bunuel’s wicked take-down of the rituals and dependencies of the frivolous upper classes.
