ArtFlix: The Women

Thursday, Nov. 02, 6–8:30pm
  • This event has passed.

ArtFlix is a film series that features art related documentaries and feature films. In conjunction with The Dali’s exhibition Dali and Schiaparelli, ArtFlix will feature films with extraordinary costumes, curated by Tampa Bay fashion gurus. Special for this exhibition, each month’s ArtFlix film will be introduced by fashion experts who will speak about their chosen film’s unique fashion and how the film impacted their own fashion aesthetics.

The Women (1939) presented by George Medeiros (Founding partner of innovative accessory brand, Spathose)
The plot centers on a group of gossipy high-society women who spend their days at the beauty salon and haunting fashion shows. The sweet, happily wedded Mary Haines (Norma Shearer) finds her marriage in trouble when shop-girl Crystal Allen (Joan Crawford) gets her hooks into Mary’s man. Naturally, this situation becomes the hot talk among Mary’s catty friends, especially the scandalmonger Sylvia Fowler (Rosalind Russell), who has little room to talk — she finds herself on a train to Reno and headed for divorce right after Mary. But with a bit of guts and daring, Mary snatches her man right back from Crystal’s clutches.
